Pregnancy Massage

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-images-pregnant-woman-outdoor-pink-daisy-flower-image22912534Pregnancy can be an amazing time for the mother to be, however the changes that happen to a woman’s body as her baby grows can put considerable stress and pressure onto her muscles, ligaments and joints, often causing discomfort and pain.

Massage during pregnancy can help alleviate many of the common physiological problems associated with pregnancy:

It can help release muscular tension easing back pain, hip pain, sore feet, sciatica, Prolapsed discs and Symphis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), which are often caused by the extra weight the woman is carrying, postural changes and hormone release. It can also release compression on the nerves caused by muscle tension or oedema.

Relieves compression in the spine caused by postural changes and increased weight gain.

Massage can help stimulate circulation by bringing the blood to the muscles, and delivering essential nurients to the vital organs of the body and to the placenta which will aid the development of the baby. It also helps to avoid varicose veins from developing.

It will help with lymphatic drainage, which will eliminate toxins from the cells and blood and help reduce oedema (which can lead to carpal tunnel and tarsal tunnel syndrome).

Massage helps prevent sluggish bowel movement, thus avoiding constipation and haemorrhoids.

As well as the physiological changes that the pregnant woman eperiences, she may also experience a variety of emotional changes. Preparing for the arrival of the birth can be very exciting, but can also be very stressful.

Massage can reduce emotional stress and anxiety due to its calming effect. Feel good endorphins released by the mother during massage are passed onto her baby. A stress free environment is created in which the child can lovingly and peacefully grow. The use of Aromatherapy essential oils can also be very effective for reducing the mother’s emotional stress and anxiety at this time. Cheymoon is trained and qualified in using safe essential oils for pregnancy, in safe dilutions for pregnancy.

Massage can induce deep relaxation and therefore can aid peaceful sleep.

Massage encourages the release of oxytocin, a pain relieving hormone released during labour and birth.
